2023 Tobacco Free Michigan Conference 

​

The 2023 Annual Conference returned as an in-person event for the first time since 2019!  The conference was a great opportunity to meet other TFM members and learn about what is happening in the world of tobacco.

Speakers
 

The 2023 Annual Conference included four presentations featuring and exciting lineup of speakers and topics including:

 

Tobacco Control in the 21st Century: Policies to Address Traditional and Emerging Tobacco Products: Karalyn Kiessling discussed the findings of her dissertation, which focused on the politics surrounding tobacco and vaping policies. Results from store observations in Grand Rapids and Detroit will be provided along with analysis of groups involved in the passage of Tobacco 21 in Virginia and Colorado. Local impacts and key messages from other states will be highlighted as well as policy options which can address some of the issues illuminated by this research.

Myths Surrounding Tobacco Use and Stress: Ryan Coffman, the Tobacco Policy and Control Program Manager for the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, will present about the misperceptions and myths surrounding stress and tobacco use. A copy of the presentation can be downloaded here.

 

Tobacco in Schools: Shelly Klochack (Corewell Health), Bree Gladstone (Barry County RISE) and Jen LaChappelle (Muskegon Knowsmoke Coalition) will discuss working with teens and schools.  Due to the discussion nature of the panel, no slides are available.
